In this exhibition Breuer presents new works, which thematically and methodically play on a co-existence within what essentially seems both inconsistent and antithetic. Three painted diptychs show different representations of victory in combination with abstract patterns – neoclassical figures painted with photorealistic accuracy meet with the flat forms of ‘hard edge’ painting. What was developed in different epochs and ideological worlds is now connected by a common format, a reduced chromaticity and by unifying composition of diagonals.
Breuer pursues in his work an aesthetic concept, where he tears different art forms out of their usual contexts and bring them together in new constellations. These interactions unveil surprising similarities and analogies, so that Breuer´s presentation always provide a coherent and universal view.
Lars Breuer (1974) is represented in both private and public collections, including Sammlung Museum Folkwang, Essen; Sammlung Ludwig Forum for International Art, Aachen and the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum, Ludwigshafen am Rhein.
Exhibition period: 22. August - 20. September 2014
