Lars Morell (1980) lives and works in Oslo where he graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts. For his second solo exhibition at KANT Morell presents "Shadow Canvas" and "Silent Codes", respectively recent paintings and bronze sculptures. In the dusty mauve paintings one catches a glimpse of machinery, which was used to seduce the audience, when magic and magic art had its heyday in the early 1900s. He has stylised the mystical and theatrical forms, composed them with unexpected gravity and reproducing them as blurry silhouettes.
The shapes in the dark patinated bronze figurines are cast over the same motives and appear as empty imprints of what was once there.
Morell has exhibited on a national and international level presenting group and solo exhibitions at the Kristiansand Kunsthal, Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Artissima Art Fair, Italy; the Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Jeu De Paume, Paris; Jan Wentrup, Berlin; Perla Mode, Zurich; Centrum för Fotografi in Stockholm, as well as Fondation d’entreprise Ricard in Paris. In 2013 he received the Pollock-Krasner Foundation’s Grant from New York. His work is represented in important private collections and in numerous public collections including Statoil Collection, Malmø Kunstmuseum and Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Kristiansand.
