NAP+ 2024: SOLO - TUUKKA TAMMISAARI

Donauweg 11, 1043 AJ Amsterdam, The Nederlands, 12 - 15 September 2024

For the first edition of NAP+, we proudly present a solo exhibition by Tuukka Tammisaari (b.1984)

Tammisaari lives and works in Helsinki. His works show nature’s and psyche’s macro-level details to magnified scales, capturing minutiae in dynamic geometrical and free brushstrokes. Working on both canvas and paper, the rough surface texture in the paintings primarily consists of multiple overlapping images and layers of paint. Varied in visual expression, the often earthy palette and abstract forms open for poetic and playful interpretations. An intuitive flow and reason trigger Tammisaari, and his paintings cover a broad spectrum ranging from cheeky playfulness to heavy monochrome.

The artist describes art-making as compiling an inventory of specific thoughts, events, stories, and feelings. Searching for the new and the unknown is a perpetual challenge and a source of inspiration.  His work is informed by the legacy of Western painting and allusions to art history, from minimalism to German Neo-Expressionism.

Tuukka Tammisaari studied painting at the Lahti University in Finland. His work is represented at the SMAK museum in Belgium and in numerous collections in Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria, Australia, and the USA.
