Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen (b.1963) lives and works in Copenhagen. His practice spans painting, installation and writing, and his art is, in whatever form, closely related to poetry and the poetic dimension.
Schmidt-Rasmussen's work is narrative and is positioned in an utopian intersection between the autobiographical and the general. He lives in a former harbour area in Copenhagen, Sydhavnen, with the cultural landscape "Sydhavstippen" as neighbour. These surroundings play an ongoing and important role in the issues and topics, which are interpreted to canvas, manuscripts and theatrical performances.
In recent exhibitions, Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen has portrayed a new world, in response to a persistent frustration he senses in contemporary culture. Christian Schmidt-Rasmussen is educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1986-92 and was a lecturer at the Jutland Academy of Arts 1998-2004. Since the 1990´s he has participated in solo and group exhibitions both in Denmark and abroad and he is represented in notable collections such as; The National Gallery of Denmark, The Royal Collection of Graphic Art, Kobberstiksamlingen, Kastrupgård Collection and Sammlung Essl in Vienna.
