“Spare King” present a series of new paintings by Marlon Wobst, born 1980 in Germany and marks his first solo presentation in Scandinavia.
The expression "Spare" derives from bowling vocabulary and indicates that all the pins have been knocked down after the second ball in the frame. Therefore "Spare King" can be freely interpreted as the king of the mediocre players - an image which answers well with Wobst´s unpretentious intentions.
No matter which motif Wobst is depicting, the muted shades and bold warm-cold contrasts visualize his charming and unorthodox view. He is the observant viewer, entertained by paradoxes, looking to be amused. When he is surprised - he surprises the viewer; an artist who undaunted conveys the complexites of the everyday with an intellectually challenging and subtle humor. The exhibition is in collaboration with "Schwarz Contemporary - Berlin".
