“Parallel Formations" is a very appropriate description and titel for Jørgen Carlo Larsen's comprehensive and diverse practice. The theme for this exhibition is a meeting of formal / abstract imagery and elements from popular culture. "Abstract art” appears together with domestic arts and "do it yourself" products proposing a dialogue between older culture and a new reality, art and non-art, art and fashion. Larsen presents a number of large wall works, based on hand embroidered vintage table cloths, a series of drawings on pages from an antique book and a large scale installation where two architectural structures create a framework for a series of sculpture.
Jørgen Carlo Larsen (1954) lives and works in Copenhagen and has participated in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally. In addition to his artistic practice, he has been co-founder of two significant art-projects, TAPKO and Skulpturi and has held a variety of positions on boards and councils related to the Danish art scene. Larsen was awarded the Eckersberg Medal in 2006 and the Danish Arts Foundation´s Lifetime Grant in 2010. In addition to private collections, he is represented in a number of important public collections including the Danish Arts Foundation, the New Carlsberg Foundation and Copenhagen Cultural Foundation.
