SCALP is an installation, where detached and close cropped ceramic parties with trophy-like status fill the gallery space. Each part has its individual characteristics but they communicate directly with one another within this specific presentation. Ahlmann challenges the autonomy of the individual work and as the title of the exhibition indicates, he stages a ceramic drama, where he cultivates the diversity and range of sensations, which is offered by the clay and the glazes. Ahlmanns sculptures, combine organic references to body and nature with the more designed and geometric language, cohesive for mathematics and industrial products. It is with these clashes in the approach and his personal artistic expression, that Ahlmann "walks the plank", - setting a scene in the white cube with the glazed trophies as actors, offering us a dynamic and vital discussion.
Born in 1967 Ahlmann graduated from the Department of Unika at the Danish Design School in 1995. He has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in Denmark, Europe and Asia. He is represented in private and public collections including; The New Carlsberg Foundation, Danish Arts Foundation and the Design Museum Denmark. In 2007, he received the Annie & Otto Johs Detlef ' Ceramics price and in 2011 the Danish Arts Foundation 's 3-year scholarship.
