Anne Mette Larsen (b.1961) lives and works Gl. Ry - Denmark.
Larsen is a textile artist and her work is prominently inspired by an architectural format translated into textile impressions. Varying the simplest tabby weave Larsen stimulates her artistic process in terms of form, by constantly challenging the loom’s logic, grid structure and set of dogma rules. Her interest lies in pushing the limits of the material's ability. Working often in smaller series with specific topics and themes each work is unique in terms of composition and colour using a traditional double-weave technique. Up to 3 layers of hand-dyed paper and silk yarn are woven, where the threads intertwine and swap places. The final compositions are an abstraction of a classic twist pattern.
Larsen's deep understanding and passion for weaving tradition allow added complexity in the tactile layers of colour, contrast, and depth to the expression of her work.
Anne Mette Larsen has exhibited extensively and is represented in numerous private and public collections including; Design Museum Denmark, The New Carlsberg Foundation and The Danish Art Foundation.
