ASMUND HAVSTEEN-MIKKELSEN

The creation of space and the sense of infinity by means of linear perspective in the composition is a fundamental element in the new paintings by Havsteen-Mikkelsen. But the diversity between the individual works derive in content from the observations that underlie their occurrence. It is general experiences like staring up into the sky or the experience of looking into the reflective infinity of a hall of mirrors. It may also be the sensation of feeling drawn in by a deep black hole whose depth can not be determined. With this exhibition Havsteen-Mikkelsen adds a new metaphysical dimension to his collected works. The Infinity Complex arises according to the artist, from the widely different ways, infinity can sneak into our world and the space we live in. Infinity becomes a metaphysical dimension of human beings themselves, thus opening a space of virtuality and the possibility of seeing the world in a new way.

Asmund Havsteen-Mikkelsen (1977) has studied literature and philosophy at the Copenhagen University and he graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2009. Havsteen-Mikkelsen lives and works in Berlin and is represented in numerous privat and public collections including; the Danish Arts Foundation and the New Carlsberg Foundation.
