UNSTILL LIFE — KASPAR BONNÉN
What happens when a still life refuses to be still?
In Unstill Life, Kaspar Bonnén turns the familiar language of domestic interiors into something restless, fragmented and alive. Tables, windows, flowers, fruit and everyday objects become shifting elements within a space where nothing quite settles.
The paintings hover between observation and imagination — recognisable rooms dissolving into colour, pattern, memory and movement. Bonnén’s energetic brushwork disrupts the traditional still life, allowing objects to appear and disappear within the painting, as if the room itself were breathing.
Unstill Life is not a rejection of stillness, but an exploration of what lies within it: movement, memory, desire and the constant transformation of the everyday.
Bonnén’s position within Danish contemporary art is supported by substantial institutional recognition. He has received the Eckersberg Medal, one of Denmark’s most distinguished artistic honours, as well as the New Carlsberg Foundation Artist Prize. His public commissions include works for the City Court of Copenhagen, Amalienborg, the Danish Supreme Court, the Ministry of Family and Consumer Affairs and the Royal Palace, Frederik VIII´s Palace at Amalienborg.
