Lars Breuer (1974) lives and works in Cologne. His oeuvre ranges from abstract and figurative paintings to text based installations and photography. Through a diversity of themes the artist reflects heroes of art history from Caspar David Friedrich and Max Beckmann to Ad Reinhardt and Jackson Pollock thus positioning himself within a self chosen genealogy. Deeper lying references in Breuer´s works relate to literature, art theory as well as philosophy, which he studied simultaneously while attending the Düsseldorf Art Academy. Historical and philisophical references are also visible in Breuer´s text - and language related works. Monumental in scale the wall paintings have personal character as they are empowered with Breuer´s own typography. Strongly graphic and often in black and white these works evoke associations to “billboard slogans” and corporate advertising.
Since graduating from the Dusseldorf Art Academy in 2003 Lars Breuer has been commissioned to create numerous public and corporate installations. He has exhibited exstensively in international galleries and museums and is represented in numerous privat and public collections including; Collection Museum Folkwang, Essen. Collection Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst Aachen. Wilhelm-Hack Museum, Ludwigshafen am Rhein.
